It's been a few years since i've listened to this album and after just hearing it again i've just been blown away by it!
The album opener, Club Foot, needs no introduction. It's a fantastic song which gets right in your face from the first note and stays there all the way through. The next two songs, Processed Beats and Reason Is Treason, pick up from where Club Foot leaves off. Track 4, I.D, starts off a little slower but the intro sets up what is essence a very good song.
So 4 songs in and not one step has been put wrong, very impressive for a debut album.
After a little musical interlude we then have the classic L.S.F. which must count as one of my all time favourite songs (in my top 20 anyway!). It's catchy and is basically this album in a nutshell.
Next up is Running Battle, the tempo is a little slower on this one and whilst for me this is the albums' weakest track it is still very listenable.
Test Transmission is sung by guitarist/songwriter Serge, I love this and the guitar solo at 2:15 makes you want to punch the air and shout 'Fuck Yeah!' (Sorry about the language mum!)
Another musical interlude follows and then we're into the final 4 songs on the album. Cutt Off is very much in the mould of Processed Beats but not quite as good, Butcher Blues is a slow blues-ey type song with excellent lyrics. Ovary Stripe is a soaring instrumental, I could easily imagine this being in an action or sci-fi type movie, the only downside is that it goes on for a minute too long. U Boat is another track sung by Serge, I think that this one may be an acquired taste, I love it though, the keyboards in it are so atmospheric.
The last song is a hidden bonus track and is another mix of Reason Is Treason and whilst it is good it seems a little pointless being on there.
So there we have it, Kasabian by Kasabian. As a album it is excellent, as a debut album it's even better. It has it's own unique sound, those keyboards run all the way through the album and add to every song.
I've got to give this 5/5, anything less just wouldn't be good form!
